- Purpose of the job
To provide high levels of specialist technical support and maintenance for the Bricklaying curriculum areas, servicing and instructing on academic programmes and the maintenance of tooling, equipment and supplying of materials in the designated areas, ensuring a healthy and safe environment for students, visitors and staff.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of materials and teaching aids for practical and theory Bricklaying sessions
- Maintain and service tools and equipment pertaining to the Bricklaying curriculum areas
- Provide appropriate technical support for the practical Bricklaying curriculum areas.
- Assist staff and students in equipment usage in practical work areas to include the clearing down and setting up of equipment.
- Deal with queries when supervising learners.
- Working with specialist lecturing staff across the Bricklaying areas.
- Ensuring stocks of tools and equipment within the Bricklaying areas.
- Responsible for the inventory and security of all tools, equipment and materials pertaining to above curriculum areas.
- Maintenance of specialist equipment in the Bricklaying areas and compliance with health and safety legislation
- Obtaining quotations for materials, tools and equipment from suitable suppliers
- Preparing orders in connection with materials, tools and equipment to be purchased from suppliers
- Receiving and checking materials, tools and equipment purchased from suppliers
- Ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations, in accordance with College Health and Safety policy across the Bricklaying curriculum areas.
- A minimum of Level 2 vocational qualification in Bricklaying
- Building cavity walls
- Building solid walls and piers
- Constructing arches
- Repair and maintenance of masonry structures
- The construction of decorative, reinforced, radial and battered brickwork.
- Maintance of power tools.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of safe working practices in the Construction sector (Bricklaying specific).
- Demonstrate a high level of technical experience in all aspects of bricklaying with appropriate commercial/industrial experience.
- Demonstrate experience of ordering materials and working within budget.
- Demonstrate experience of undertaking risk assessments in environments appropriate to the post.
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to be self directed and able to solve practical problems with limited supervision.
- Demonstrate high levels of organisational skills and ability to cope under pressure.
- Demonstrate ability to be self directed with initiative and to be able to solve practical problems with limited supervision.
- Demonstrate good communication skills both oral and written and interpersonal skills.
