Description
Main Purpose
In this challenging and rewarding role based within our clients Learning Support team, you will work directly with young people (Year 9 upwards) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and their parents/carers, to enable them to make an effective transition to higher education. Reporting to the Head of Learning Support, you will also take a lead on all administrative duties for receiving and processing of learners with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), including leading the EHCP Consultation process and Annual Review meetings. You would also take a lead with the administration of the Learning Support Funding budget.
 
You will need to have experience of working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in an educational environment, an understanding of the SEND code of practice and will have some knowledge and experience of high needs funding. You will also have experience of working in partnership with external agencies such as local authorities and schools.   Together with your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will be able to build effective working relationships and meet the needs of a diverse range of people. You should also have strong IT, organisational and administrative skills, and be able to prioritise a busy workload effectively.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Funding
  • To administer all Learning support funding, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation at all times
  • Be the lead contact when dealing with all Learning Support funding queries
  • Liaise and work closely with finance department to reconcile and agree expenditure of funds.
  • To calculate the costs of each High Needs learner and with the Director agree costs being provided.
  • Liaise with local authorities regarding the costs and answer any queries that arise.
  • Working with the Head of Learning Support agree initial cost estimates prior to enrolment.
  • To monitor the timely payment of invoices for element 3 high needs funding from local authorities and provide reports for finance.
  • To provide reports for SLT and audit for High Needs learners element 2 and element 3 budgets.
  • To liaise with internal and external auditors as and when required.
 
Transition
  • To work closely with the Head of Learning Support to take a lead on EHC Consultation responses.
  • To maintain an up-to-date spreadsheet of all correspondence regarding EHC plans and provide reminders regarding deadline dates for actions. 
  • To foster ‘relationships’ with all feeder Boroughs including attendance at relevant local authority meetings.
  •  To assist the Head of Learning Support in ensuring appropriate progression for SEN learners and negotiate funding with Local Authorities.
  •  To assist the Head of Learning Support in correspondence with local authorities, schools and parents regarding EHC plans.
  • To undertake administration for learners with SEN which includes:
    • Administration of the formal review process for learners with EHCPs
  • To assist the Head of Learning Support in creating and maintaining a register of SEN learners.
  • To monitor completion of individual action plans for learners and to ensure appropriate records are kept. Assist with input into student profile document on High Needs Tracking Spreadsheet
  • To plan and coordinate with SEND Transition Workers, the transition and Summer workshops from discrete and mainstream provision feeder schools; this will include liaising with Heads of School.
 
General
  • To take an active part in the appraisal and mentoring processes and to engage in relevant Staff Training and Development as identified.
  • To comply with all relevant Health & Safety Regulations and assist the business in the implementation of its own Health & Safety Policy.
  • To comply with and actively promote the Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To participate in and contribute to the in-service and training activities.
  • To carry out all other duties as may be reasonably required.
