Description

Our client is looking for a Deputy Head of Apprenticeships to ensure that current and future apprentices receive a first-class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications at high levels and to develop long-lasting learning and employability skills.

The Role As a member of the Apprenticeship Management Team, the post holder will have responsibility for Apprenticeships in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Professional (STEP). The post holder will be required to work at other sites with their respective apprenticeship teams as directed by the Group Head of Apprenticeships.

Main Purposes and Responsibilities:

  • Follow up on apprenticeship and employer new business enquiries, IAG for parents and prospective apprentices, complaints, KIT days with employer relationships, and awarding body enquiries.
  • Work closely with the curriculum team on delivery programs.
  • Support and collaborate with the Group Apprenticeship Team Leader and Apprenticeship administrators to ensure coordination, accuracy, and compliance of the sign-up process.
  • Monitor apprenticeship standards and ensure timely completions.
  • Work with the Business Development Team to develop and secure new business.
  • Be responsible for the apprenticeship journey to ensure timely achievements.

Leadership and Vision:

  • Provide leadership within the Apprenticeship Unit, developing and implementing operational and improvement plans in line with group objectives.
  • Support the Group Head of Apprenticeships in establishing a culture in line with the group’s values and behaviors.
  • Promote equality of opportunity and diversity.
  • Ensure timely curriculum self-assessment and effective action plans with the Group Head of Apprenticeships.
  • Manage change within the area professionally and openly.
  • Enhance the Apprenticeship team's reputation, representing the Group at events.

Curriculum:

  • Foster a culture of innovation and lead on new technologies within the curriculum.
  • Share information with tutors on attendance, reporting, and apprentice progress.
  • Provide accurate and timely data.
  • Implement quality assurance and business processes, aligning with internal and external requirements.
  • Liaise with curriculum teams to facilitate work-based learning and ensure employer involvement in the process (e.g., Technical certificate, English, maths).

Learner Experience:

  • Ensure recruitment, conduct, and progress of apprentices align with Group policies and procedures.
  • Deliver professional Open Events, IAG Evenings, Parents' Evenings, Careers Conventions, and employer liaison.
  • Guide and support apprentices throughout their training.
  • Plan and deliver MOTs for the area with the Group Head of Apprenticeships.

Staff:

  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Share information with tutors on attendance, reporting, and apprentice progress.
  • Support assessors with OTJ and Progress reviews to ensure timely completion as per apprenticeship standards.

Resources:

  • Comply with Financial Regulations and Procedures.
  • Meet enrolment and income targets.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for study and work, paying attention to safeguarding and health and safety requirements.

 

Personal Specification:

  • Successful and proven track record of curriculum development and apprenticeship success.
  • A proven track record of engaging with employers and developing apprenticeships and curriculum.
  • Be a trained assessor
  • Significant experience of successfully tracking and monitoring apprentices throughout their programmes
  • Experience of successfully leading/managing FE and/or HE programmes.
  • Experience of successfully monitoring and supporting ‘at-risk’ learners to achieve or exceed their potential.
  • High personal standards and expectations with good planning,
  • preparation, organisational and administrative skills.
  • Hardworking and flexible, with the ability to work well under pressure to
  • agreed deadlines.
  • Receptive to new ideas and initiatives with a creative approach to problem solving and managing change.
  • Have a strong commitment to equality and diversity, safeguarding, personalised learning and the provision of educational excellence.
