Overview

I am currently working with a respected and expanding training provider who is seeking an experienced Designated Safeguarding Officer Trainer to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a safeguarding professional with hands-on experience in children’s residential care to step into a rewarding training and development role. The position offers a blend of national travel for face-to-face delivery alongside home-based working, providing flexibility and autonomy.

The Role

As a DSO Apprenticeship Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality learning aligned to the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. You will work closely with apprentices in safeguarding roles, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in their positions and meet End-Point Assessment (EPA) criteria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver training and support in line with the Designated Safeguarding Officer Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

  • Facilitate a mix of online and in-person sessions to ensure relevant, contextualised learning experiences

  • Track learner progress, provide regular feedback, and support successful EPA preparation

  • Adapt delivery methods to meet individual learner needs and workplace environments

  • Maintain compliance with ESFA funding rules, internal procedures, and Ofsted requirements

  • Promote high standards of safeguarding practice and contribute to the development of the next generation of safeguarding professionals

About You – Essential Criteria

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a safeguarding role within a children’s residential care setting

  • Proven experience of carrying out risk assessments, managing safeguarding cases, referrals, and working with multi-agency teams

  • Strong understanding of key legislation and statutory guidance, such as:

    • Keeping Children Safe in Education

    • Working Together to Safeguard Children

    • Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015

    • Ofsted’s Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to simplify complex information

  • Confident using virtual delivery platforms and Microsoft Office

  • Willingness and ability to travel across the UK as required

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience delivering training, apprenticeships, or internal development programmes

  • Understanding of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework

  • Familiarity with the End-Point Assessment process

Qualifications Required

  • Recognised teaching or training qualification (e.g. AET, CET, DET, TAQA or equivalent)

  • Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Officer qualification (minimum)

  • Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths

  • Full UK driving licence

Key Attributes

  • Passionate about safeguarding and raising standards across the sector

  • Empathetic and approachable, with a learner-focused approach

  • Organised and self-sufficient, able to manage a varied and mobile workload

  • Reflective and committed to personal and professional development

  • Comfortable discussing sensitive safeguarding topics
