Description

Computing Services Assistant

We are looking for a Computing Services Assistant for one of our amazing clients.

This role will provide technical support and troubleshooting for telephones and personal computer and other technological systems used by staff and students. You will be responsible mainly for PC and Apple computers, being equally comfortable supporting either platform. The culture and ethos of the post is directed towards support and excellent customer service to the team’s customers.
As part of the Computing Services Support team, you will be expected to be on a rota to provide both early morning, evening and weekend cover at when required.

The main duties of the post are to:

  • Act as a point of contact for students and staff
  • Deal with and resolve internal and external enquiries regarding team issues.
  • Diagnose and rectify problems with hardware and software on Apple, PC and mobile systems
  • Install and set up personal computers/laptops and associated peripherals including imaging, siting, configuration, testing and demonstrating basic functions.
  • Undertake basic repairs and upgrades to hardware
  • Liaise with and assist with third party maintenance contractors, including arranging callouts and attending their site visits
  • Use Helpdesk software as a task management tool
  • Liaise with both academic and business support teams as appropriate.
  • Represent Computing Services internallyand externally as appropriate
  • Assist with other duties as required within the Computing Services team as a whole.
  • Bring to the attention of managers any matters relating to health and safety of both staff and customers
  • Promote equality and diversity for students and staff and sustain an inclusive and supportive study and work environment in accordance withall policies.
  • To take appropriate responsibility for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of young people and/or vulnerable adults
  • Be responsible for compliance with relevant legislation as appropriate in your role.

Essential Qualifications 
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE or equivalent)
  •  
  • Desirable Qualifications 
  • Hold an HNC\D or relevant qualification

Essential Background and Experience 
  • Working knowledge of common problems with software and PC\Mac\Mobile related hardware
  •  
  • Desirable Background and Experience 
  • Experience of working in a similar role
  • Experience of Windows 7

  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to work across all areas
  • Effective written, report writing, proof-reading and editing skills
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, decision making and influencing skills
  • Able to cope with a demanding and diverse workload and meet deadlines
  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable and flexible with genuine interest and enthusiasm to raise the level of engagement with e-learning and digital research skills
  • Willingness to embrace change and flexibility to adapt
  • Customer/user focussed and genuine desire to embrace equality and diversity in all aspects of work
