Job Details:                           
This is an exciting opportunity for an animal science specialist to deliver on a range of animal care topics such as animal biology, animal husbandry and zoological management.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  1.  To deliver high standards of teaching and learning and to monitor assessment processes in accordance with awarding body requirements. 
    • To deliver departmental requirements of core and additional programmes including Health and Safety and environmental regulations.
    • To deliver on level 1, 2 and 3 programmes and support the strand to develop new curriculum provision to include T-levels and HE programmes as required by the demands of the curriculum.
    • Be ready to delivery via a blended learning approach i.e. face-to-face and online (remote delivery via Microsoft Teams)
 
  • Producing sequenced schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment plans, learning materials and any other related activities that impact on the effectiveness of learning ensuring Ofsted Readiness.
  • To co-ordinate and maintain records of formative and summative assessments of students’ learning carried out by the course team.
  • To communicate external examination entry and timetable arrangements to the course team and students.
  • Ensure that all students are well prepared for assessments through exams and employer set projects.
  • To work pro-actively to forward the success and vision of the department and the business.
 
  1. To be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe working environment.
  2. To observe and keep aware of Health and Safety documentation and procedures in line with business Policy.
  3. To undertake classroom or workshop risk assessments if required
           
  1. To act as a Programme leader by undertaking the following responsibilities:
  2. To liaise and agree a programme of learning with the Curriculum Manager.  
  3. Organise an induction programme for learners.
  4. Identification of resource requirements i.e. staffing, specialist rooms, equipment, software, etc.
  5. To take responsibility for IV, EV and final standards assessment, in line with exam board criteria.
  6. To lead course planning and development ensuring that the provision meets the needs of all learners and stakeholders including administration i.e. timely completion and return of registers, Employers and HE Institutions.
  7. To maintain and update an electronic course file for each programme to be managed or that is taught on.
 
  1. To support the co-ordination, planning and delivery of pastoral and tutorial provision for students including acting as a personal tutor for students to:
  2. Design and deliver a tutorial curriculum in line with business  requirements.
  3. Assist in the identification of student’s individual needs and in the co-ordination of relevant support to meet their needs.
  4. Support all learners to find an appropriate work placement as all learners will be expected to complete 315 of work experience hours.
  5. Support students to gain independence and confidence to immerse themselves into an occupational specialism. 
  6. Provide pastoral support to learners, liaising with central support staff where necessary.
  7. Monitor attendance and learning progress using the tracking systems.
  8. Assist students to set challenging targets to aid learning and personal development, with an emphasise on preparing for an occupational specialist.
  9. Ensure every learner receives careers education and guidance including an exit interview.
  10. Ensure that students have an opportunity to give feedback on their learning experience.
  11. To evaluate the effectiveness of the course through the application of the course review and evaluation process.
  12. Liaise with parents and carers and ensure the timely completion of students’ progress reports that are forwarded to the same where appropriate.
  13. Act as a point of contact for communications to and from students.
  14. Attend personal tutor forums
           
  1. To co-ordinate the arrangements for the initial assessment of:
  2. The attainment levels of learners in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.
  3. Share the results with course team members.
  4. To support the recruitment, admission, enrolments and induction of learners onto the correct programme.
 
  1. To ensure that individual students’ learning needs are met through the provision of:
  2. Learning support i.e. English, maths and ICT
  3. Initial Advice & Guidance i.e. to be involved in student interviews and the enrolment/induction process.
  4. Learner Support (ALS)
 
On appointment:       
  • Unqualified new full time and part time lecturers will be required to gain a Diploma in Education & Training or equivalent within 2 – 4 years of appointment (2 for Full Time Staff; longer for fractional staff dependant on contract).
  • Failureto do so will be regarded as a breach of contract.
