- Description
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) with a strong background in trades or construction-related qualifications. The successful candidate will ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across vocational programmes, including those in construction, building services, and technical trades. You will monitor, review, and support assessors and trainers to maintain compliance with awarding bodies and regulatory requirements, playing a key role in sustaining high standards and promoting continuous improvement within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate tutor and assessor performance to ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and assessment across construction and trade-based qualifications.
- Conduct sampling of learner portfolios to verify assessment decisions and ensure they are fair, valid, reliable, and meet industry standards.
- Identify development needs and facilitate professional growth for tutors and assessors, particularly within construction and technical disciplines.
- Ensure all assessment and IQA documentation meets awarding organisation and regulatory body standards (e.g., City & Guilds, Pearson, NOCN).
- Support the standardisation of assessment practices and participate in standardisation meetings across trade and construction pathways.
- Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and mentoring to assessors to enhance the consistency and quality of assessment practices.
- Ensure compliance with Ofqual, ESFA, Ofsted, and relevant construction industry frameworks or professional standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date IQA records, sampling plans, reports, and monitoring documentation.
- Monitor learner progress to support timely completion and achievement of qualifications.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety in all aspects of delivery and assessment.
- Contribute to curriculum planning, the development of schemes of work, and industry-relevant assessment strategies.
- Support and prepare for External Quality Assurance (EQA) visits, responding effectively to actions and recommendations.
- Proactively identify risks in assessment and implement actions to drive continuous quality improvement.
- Share best practice, promote consistency across delivery teams, and contribute to staff training and development.
- Uphold confidentiality, comply with data protection regulations, and maintain professionalism at all times.
- Attend staff meetings, standardisation sessions, and undertake other duties relevant to the IQA function.
Essential Qualifications
- Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (or equivalent).
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent.
- Relevant construction or trade-related occupational qualification(s) and sector experience.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
Desirable Qualifications
- Teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, AET, or higher).
- Sector-specific qualifications such as Construction, Site Management, Quantity Surveying, Carpentry, Plumbing, or Electrical.
- Health and Safety qualification (e.g., CSCS, SMSTS, or equivalent).
Experience
- Proven experience working as an Internal Quality Assurer within a vocational education or training environment.
- Experience supporting construction or trade-based qualifications and preparing for EQA visits.
- Demonstrated ability to support, develop, and quality assure assessors and trainers.
- Proficiency in using e-portfolio systems (e.g., BUD, OneFile, or Smart Assessor).
- Strong understanding of construction industry standards, qualification frameworks, and apprenticeship requirements.
