Contract Type: Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

Role Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver Entry Level 1–3 and Level 1–2 Functional Skills English within small group settings (up to 12 learners).
Our client delivers tailored education to young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Their learners often require additional support with communication, emotional regulation, and learning at an individual pace. Learners may present with a range of needs including: Global developmental delay, Down syndrome, Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Severe learning difficulties, Social communication challenges.
This is not a mainstream teaching role. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate patience, adaptability, and confidence in managing a classroom environment with diverse and high-needs learners.
Key Responsibilities:
The Functional Skills English Tutor be responsible for planning and delivering an engaging Functional Skills English curriculum with clear differentiation to meet learner needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering Functional Skills English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2
- Developing and implementing schemes of work aligned with curriculum and learner needs
- Creating engaging and innovative lesson plans and learning activities
- Delivering group sessions with clear learning objectives and outcomes
- Adapting teaching approaches for learners with SEND, including ADHD, autism, and other learning differences
- Conducting diagnostic assessments, mock assessments, and progress reviews
- Monitoring learner progress through initial and ongoing assessment
- Preparing learners for Functional Skills examinations
- Relating learning to real-life and workplace contexts
- Maintaining accurate learner records and documentation
- Completing administrative tasks including planning, progress tracking, and feedback
- Collaborating with the Quality Assurance team to maintain delivery standards
- Attending standardisation meetings and contributing to quality improvement
- Maintaining personal Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Ensuring safeguarding practices are followed in line with company policies
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
- AET, CertEd, PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification
- English Grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills Level 2
- Assessor qualification
- Experience teaching learners with different abilities or learning needs
- Experience working with learners who present learning differences
- Strong classroom management skills within SEND settings
Desirable
- SEND or Special Educational Needs qualifications
- Knowledge or experience working with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
