Job Title: Learning Support Mentor
Salary: £21,355 - £21,890 per annum (actual)
Contract: Term Time only (38 weeks per year) / 37 hours per week
Location: HuntingtonRole Purpose
The Learning Support Mentor provides high-quality support to students with learning difficulties and disabilities, including students who are D/deaf, autistic, have physical access needs, learning disabilities, visual impairments, or language impairments.
The role is to help students access their learning, develop independence, achieve their study goals, and make progress within an inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with teaching staff, assessors, and the Learning Support Manager to provide effective support across a range of learning environments.
- Support students to access the curriculum through activities
- Help students achieve their personalised learning outcomes, including targets within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs, such as enlarging text or simplifying language.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and inclusion by supporting students to overcome barriers to learning.
- Provide support outside the classroom, including breaks, lunch periods, trips, and off-site learning activities where required.
- Attend team meetings and contribute ideas to improve learning support services.
- Support students with therapy programmes, such as physiotherapy and speech and language interventions, following guidance from relevant professionals.
- Attend annual review meetings with parents, carers, and external professionals when required.
- Support colleagues by identifying student needs.
Person Specification – Learning Support Mentor
Essential:
- General education qualifications.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above.
Desirable:
- Level 2 Learning Support qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Dyslexia support qualification.
- Moving and Handling / Assisting People to Move qualification.
Experience
Essential:
- Recent experience supporting people with special educational needs.
Desirable:
- Experience working with young people and adults across different age groups.
- Experience within further education, education, healthcare, or social care settings.
- Experience providing sighted guidance.
