Job Description: Adult Care Assessor – Level 5

Location: Hybrid, Birmingham
Salary: £23,500 - £27,000 (Prorated 30 – 35 hours per week)

(£33k full time equivalent at 42 hours per week)

 

Job Summary

To assess, support, and guide learners completing Adult Care apprenticeships, Diplomas, and relevant qualifications up to Level 5. The Adult Care Assessor – Level 5 will ensure timely achievement, high-quality learning experiences, and compliance with awarding body, Ofsted, and regulatory requirements.

The Adult Care Assessor – Level 5 will use their sector expertise to provide effective assessment, coaching, feedback, and professional guidance, supporting learners to develop their knowledge, skills, and behaviours and progress within their chosen career pathway.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Learner Support

  • Deliver high-quality assessment using a range of methods, including observations, professional discussions, questioning, and work-based evidence.
  • Assess learners working towards Health and Social Care qualifications up to Level 5.
  • Support learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required by apprenticeship standards.
  • Conduct regular progress reviews, set SMART targets, and provide coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Prepare learners for End-Point Assessment (EPA), where applicable.
  • Act as the main point of contact for learners throughout their programme.
  • Work closely with workplace managers to support learning, development, and achievement.
  • Identify learner support needs and provide appropriate guidance and signposting.

Quality and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records in line with organisational, awarding body, and funding requirements.
  • Ensure assessment decisions are fair, valid, reliable, and meet IQA and EQA requirements.
  • Contribute to standardisation activities and continuous quality improvement.
  • Support compliance with Ofsted Education Inspection Framework requirements, DfE funding rules, safeguarding, Prevent, equality and diversity, and data protection.
  • Complete assessment documentation and written reports to the required standard and within agreed timescales.

General Responsibilities

  • Support staff induction and completion of the Care Certificate for new employees.
  • Promote learning and development opportunities across the organisation.
  • Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and person-centred practice.
  • Develop positive working relationships with learners, managers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide consultancy and assessment support outside rostered hours when required.

Professional Development

  • Maintain current occupational competence within adult health and social care.
  • Complete ongoing CPD and remain up to date with relevant legislation, apprenticeship standards, awarding body requirements, and sector best practice.
  • Maintain current knowledge of assessment and quality assurance practices.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Current experience working in adult social care, supporting vulnerable adults, including individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of adult social care legislation, regulations, and Fundamental Standards.
  • Proven experience assessing Health and Social Care qualifications up to Level 5.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship standards and End-Point Assessment processes.
  • Experience planning and delivering effective assessments using a range of assessment methods.
  • Strong communication, coaching, mentoring, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and support learners at different stages of professional development.
  • Competent use of IT systems, e-portfolios, Microsoft Office, and digital learning platforms.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between CTTM services.

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 5 Adult Care qualification, such as the Leader in Adult Care qualification, or an equivalent qualification aligned to the relevant occupational standard.
  • Level 3 Assessing qualification – TAQA, CAVA, A1, D32/D33, or equivalent.
