Trainer/ Assessor (Construction – Civil Engineering)
Hours: 37 per weekSalary: £31,110–£36,157
Purpose of Role
To manage a caseload of learners, delivering high-quality coaching, mentoring and training to achieve timely apprenticeship completion. Carrying out progress reviews and give clear feedback to learners, employers and colleagues. Whilst supporting development and assessment of learners’ knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs).
Key Responsibilities
1. Training, Coaching & Assessment
- Complete the sign-up process, ensuring all documentation is accurate.
- Use initial assessments to plan learning in English, maths and KSBs.
- Provide ongoing information, advice and guidance, ensuring learners understand support and career options.
- Prepare learners for assessments, gateway and EPA.
- Ensure assessment meets Awarding Organisation (AO) and internal quality standards.
- Plan and monitor off-the-job training.
- Develop and update learning resources on digital platforms (e.g., Smart Assessor, VLE).
- Run scheduled reviews with employers and learners, setting and tracking targets.
- Conduct assessments and ensure equality of opportunity.
- Support learners to build KSB e-portfolios.
- Support English, maths and digital development (including Functional Skills where relevant).
2. Administration
- Interview prospective learners and carry out suitability assessments.
- Check that job roles match the apprenticeship standard.
- Register learners with AOs on time.
- Attend internal and external meetings.
- Track off-the-job training and advise employers on EPA.
4. Professional Development
- Maintain up-to-date CPD.
- Undertake required mandatory and role-specific training.
5. Business Development
- Refer business leads to relevant departments.
- Recruit new learners, including attendance at events.
- Seek work-experience opportunities.
Assessor Levels
Trainer Assessor 1 (TA1)
- Level 3 TAQA (or equivalent).
Trainer Assessor 2 (TA2)
(Subject to business need – not automatic progression)
Includes TA1 duties plus:- Contribute to IQA strategies and create/update IQA plans.
- Participate and sometimes lead standardisation.
- Support external quality assurance visits.
- Maintain strong relationships with AOs.
- Ensure assessor tracking documents are maintained.
- Hold an assessment and IQA caseload.
Special Conditions
- Role requires an enhanced DBS acceptable to our client.
- Travel required across our client sites and learner locations.
