Internal Quality Assessor – Work Based Learning (Engineering)
Salary: £17,072 – £18,078 (actual) / £34,144 – £36,157 FTE
Hours: 18.5 per week
Contract: Full year, permanent
Annual Leave: 27 days pro-rata
Primary Purpose
- Support the Work Based Learning Manager to maintain high standards of quality and compliance across all learner journeys.
- Drive curriculum development and continuous improvement across work-based programmes.
- Lead Internal Quality Assurance strategies and activities aligned to our client’s IQA policies.
- Support the design and management of employer-based training programmes.
- Work with the WBL Manager and Head of Department to ensure a high-quality experience for learners, employers, and staff.
- Line-manage a caseload of Trainer Assessors.
- Lead preparation for external quality assurance and End Point Assessment.
- Contribute to self-assessment and quality improvement planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliant learner onboarding, accurate documentation, and effective initial assessment processes.
- Ensure apprentices have robust training plans that drive timely progress and EPA readiness.
- Support the tracking and monitoring of off-the-job training.
- Maintain accurate learner and employer records, including registrations and progression documentation.
- Support timetabling, staff caseload planning, and the development of new apprenticeships and qualifications.
- Maintain auditable tracking systems and up-to-date course files.
- Support recruitment activities, employer events, and open days.
- Conduct developmental observations, mentor Assessors and IQAs, and support improvements in teaching and assessment practice.
- Monitor KPIs, contribute to deep dives, self-assessment, and quality improvement planning.
- Ensure high-quality progress reviews and target setting in collaboration with employers.
- Coordinate End Point Assessments and ensure all gateway requirements are met.
- Support staff competency, CPD, and assessor qualification development.
- Ensure compliance with Smart Assessor and robust induction processes.
- Lead internal verifiers/assessors, allocate and monitor IV caseloads, and lead standardisation and staff training.
- Oversee preparation for EQA visits, implement improvements, and act as centre coordinator with awarding bodies.
- Conduct IQA sampling as required.
Professional Development
- Maintain CPD in line with awarding-body and organisational expectations, and complete all mandatory and role-relevant training.
Business Development
- Maintain strong communication with stakeholders and employers and industry links to promote our client and generate new business.
- Liaise between employers and our client, ensuring referrals reach the correct department.
- Seek and promote work-experience opportunities for learners.
Essential:
- Level 3 vocational qualification and relevant CPD, Level 3 TAQA/Assessing Award, Level 3 IQA Qualification
- Experience training and assessing in FE or work-based learning
