The Role:

Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate Functional Skills Maths Tutor to deliver high-quality teaching to learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).Including: Global developmental delay, Down syndrome, Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Severe learning difficulties and Social communication challenges.

Learners may work at a slower pace and often require additional support with communication, behaviour management and emotional regulation.

The Functional Skills Maths Tutor role involves delivering Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 1–3 and Levels 1–2 in small group settings of up to 12 learners. It requires patience, flexibility, creativity and strong classroom management skills to support learners with diverse needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Functional Skills Maths Tutor will be responsible for planning, delivering and assessing Functional Skills Maths provision, ensuring lessons are engaging, differentiated and aligned with learner needs.

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 1–3 and Levels 1–2.
  • Develop schemes of work that meet curriculum and delivery standards.
  • Design creative and engaging lesson plans and group activities.
  • Deliver structured teaching sessions with clear learning objectives.
  • Differentiate teaching approaches to meet individual learner needs.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Conduct diagnostic assessments to evaluate learner ability.
  • Carry out initial and ongoing assessments to monitor progress.
  • Prepare learners for Functional Skills examinations.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress and achievement.

Quality Assurance

  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance Team to maintain high teaching standards.
  • Participate in standardisation meetings and quality reviews.
  • Maintain professional development in line with Functional Skills delivery requirements.

Administration

  • Lesson planning
  • Progress tracking
  • Assessment recording
  • Feedback documentation

 

Additional Duties

  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and level of experience as required.
  • Essential Qualifications
  • AET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Maths Grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Assessor Qualification
  • Experience teaching learners with varied abilities and learning needs
  • Experience working with learners who present learning differences

 

Desirable Qualifications & Knowledge

  • SEN-related qualification
  • Knowledge or experience working with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
