Job Purpose
To plan and deliver effective teaching and learning against science-based apprenticeship standards, to a range of employed, individual or groups of apprentices, in the workplace or through electronic means.
To moderate tutor assessment practices to ensure fair and consistent practice.
To develop & maintain curriculum & teaching support materials to meet awarding body standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Plan and deliver learning in line with stipulated knowledge modules, units and qualifications
- To be an inspirational teacher of maths/physics to model excellence in teaching and learning communicating enthusiasm for the subject leading to high results for learners in external examinations.
- Utilising expertise to contribute towards curriculum development to enable acquisition of knowledge, skills, behaviours and embedding maths and English
- Maintain existing resources and explore opportunities to develop new resources
- Utilise LMS to create an effective and stimulating environment for teaching and learning (you will be the subject specialist for maths and physics in LMS development)
- Promotion of maths and physics throughout the apprenticeship delivery and standalone programmes.
- Play an active role as part of the delivery team, including contributing to off-timetable workshops, extension programmes, competitions, trips, open days etc.
- To play a full part in the broader curriculum for life and industrial science provision, sharing in the diverse delivery mechanisms of the tutoring team
- To be prepared to contribute in standardisation events and support the tutor teams in 1:1, group, online and face-to-face sessions with learners.
- To encourage retention and timely achievement, this includes developing schemes of work, lesson plans, coursework development and individual learning plans taking account of individual requirements to ensure differentiation of learning.
- Mark/assess learners’ work, provide structured feedback and set developmental objectives
- Carry out invigilation and testing with candidates within the guidelines of the team / awarding body requirements.
- Support learners with special education needs or additional learning requirements to achieve their apprenticeship
- Work within the guidance of the ESFA and to the requirements of Ofsted to ensure high standards of practice are always maintained in-line with the EIF
- Evaluate teaching, learning and assessment and respond to learner and employer feedback to continuously improve the learning experience for individuals and groups.
- Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding (including Prevent) the welfare of all learners for whom you have responsibility for or with whom you meet and adhere to Safeguarding policy to create and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others
Key Performance Indicators
- Be adept at developing, producing, and sharing teaching resources.
- Be capable of delivering dynamic and effective lessons to engage learners at all age ranges both in a face-to-face environment and with the use of digital platforms remotely
- Be an innovative teacher capable of helping to develop a syllabus that caters for learners of differing abilities and experience in industry
- Have highly effective communication skills for dealing with learners who may have been out of education for some time
Knowledge Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Significant industry experience with a level-4 or above subject related qualification and / or a degree in maths/physics or a closely related subject
- A teaching qualification at level 4 or higher
- A proven record of preparing learners for external examinations and a record of achieving high pass rates and grades for learners
- Inspirational teaching and learning practitioner with at least 3 years experience of teaching maths and physics, and able to develop a strong positive rapport with learners
- A confident user of IT for administration and lesson delivery (including a high level of expertise in the use of Microsoft Teams)
- A high-level communicator with the skills and ability to work with colleagues as part of a team and to liaise with learners, employers, other tutors, and support staff.
- Well-organised and self-motivated
- GSCE’s or Functional skills level 2 English and Maths
- Health & Safety, Safeguarding and ED&I practices
- QTS
- Understanding of Apprenticeship Standards
- Understanding of Quality Standards i.e., Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, Matrix
- Experience of electronic learner tracking and monitoring systems e.g., OneFile, Smart Assessor
