Job Title: Lecturer
Reporting to: Curriculum Leader / Manager, Head of Curriculum / Department
Salary: £30,650 - £42,768


Role Purpose

Our client is seeking a Lecturer to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching and learning across a range of Further Education (FE) programmes, including 16–18 study programmes, adult learning, apprenticeships, Functional Skills, and Higher Education (HE). The postholder will provide excellent educational experiences that support learner progress, achievement, and progression, while contributing to curriculum development, quality assurance, and wider departmental activities.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learning

  • Plan well-sequenced, challenging lessons informed by strong subject knowledge.
  • Establish high expectations for behaviour and achievement, delivering effective instruction, demonstration, and coaching.
  • Differentiate learning based on learner starting points, addressing misconceptions and designing engaging activities.
  • Create opportunities for learners to apply and demonstrate skills and knowledge confidently.

2. Curriculum Development

  • Develop and regularly update high-quality, inclusive teaching materials that reflect curriculum requirements and current industry standards.
  • Contribute to annual curriculum review, ensuring content remains relevant, current, and aligned with academic and industry expectations.

3. Assessment and Feedback

  • Use a range of assessment strategies—including questioning and responsive teaching—to monitor progress and identify gaps.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback and support learners to meet targets.
  • Track progress using data, implement interventions where required, and participate in reporting processes including parent/carer meetings (where appropriate).
  • Prepare learners for internal and external assessments and ensure compliance with awarding body expectations.

 

4. Learner Support and Guidance

  • Build positive, productive relationships with learners, offering both academic and pastoral support.
  • Promote strong attendance and punctuality through accurate record-keeping and timely interventions.
  • Conduct tutorials when required, supporting learner development and career aspirations.
  • Ensure inclusive classroom practice, collaborating with learning support colleagues to meet diverse needs.
  • Promote safeguarding and learner welfare in line with our client’s policies and statutory requirements.

5. Professional Development

  • Engage in at least 30 hours of continuous professional development annually.
  • Participate fully in training, mandatory activity, and internal development aligned with our client’s professional standards.

6. External Liaison

  • Support learner recruitment through open days, interviews, enrolment, and induction activities.
  • Contribute to college events that promote learner engagement.
  • Build and maintain industry links, which may include arranging guest speakers, workplace visits, and work-related opportunities.

7. Quality Assurance

  • Participate in internal quality reviews, self-assessment, and external inspection processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment, and achievement within agreed timescales.
  • Adhere to all organisational policies, including those relating to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety.

Liaison and Networking

  • Engage regularly with internal colleagues, managers, and support services.
  • Participate in course team meetings and professional networks.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet learner needs and resolve day-to-day challenges.
  • Contribute to curriculum and quality improvement decisions as part of the department.
  • Make informed decisions about teaching content and assessment within curriculum frameworks.

Planning and Resource Management

  • Plan daily and weekly teaching activities and resources.
  • Manage workload effectively to meet deadlines for teaching, assessment, and administration.
  • Contribute to departmental resource planning where appropriate.

Teaching and Learning Support

  • Deliver learning across different levels and qualification types.
  • Develop engaging teaching materials and use a range of delivery methods, including online learning.

Condensed Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant subject.
  • Higher-level qualification appropriate for teaching HE (where applicable).
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • Level 2 English & Maths (GCSE C/4+ or equivalent).

Knowledge

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging trends in subject area.
  • Strong understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment in FE/HE.

Skills

  • Ability to deliver engaging, effective, inclusive teaching.
  • Competence at Stage 1 of the Digital Teaching Professional Framework.

Additional Requirement

  • Enhanced DBS clearance (Child workforce) including children’s barred list check where applicable.
