Job Title: Crafting and Fabric Instructor

Salary: Up to £34,000

Location: Full Sutton

The Role

As a Crafting and Fabric Instructor you practical, organised, and passionate about learning and developing others. Our client is seeking a Textile Workshop Instructor to support the delivery of a busy, industrial textile workshop producing essential goods such as quilt covers, towels, and bedding for use across the prison estate.

You’ll play a key role in developing prisoners’ practical and employability skills in a structured, supportive environment, while ensuring production targets and quality standards are met.

As the Crafting and Fabric Instructor you will support and oversee the daily operations of a high-volume textile workshop, supervising prisoners involved in the manufacture and repair of textile products used across the prison system.

You’ll organise workloads, maintain quality and safety standards, and work closely with Work & Skills Coaches to help prisoners build confidence, discipline, and work-ready behaviours.

What they are looking for

This role is ideal for someone with a genuine interest in textiles and manufacturing. Previous experience in the textiles industry is desirable, but not essential — full training will be provided for candidates who bring the right attitude, transferable skills, and enthusiasm for hands-on production work.

Experience in training, coaching, or assessing others is desirable but not required.

What You’ll Be Doing

· Induct prisoners into workshop routines, health and safety, tool use, and production processes.

· Lead, support, and motivate prisoners, managing productivity, behaviour, and development.

· Set and monitor daily production targets and quality standards to meet operational requirements.

· Carry out risk assessments and maintain strict control of tools and materials in line with security procedures.

· Embed employability skills such as teamwork, time management, quality awareness, and accountability into daily work.

· Support the delivery and assessment of relevant vocational qualifications where appropriate.

· Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and production output.

· Provide reports to support sentence planning and security requirements.

· Work closely with prison staff and other stakeholders to ensure workshop activities run smoothly.
